You guys, I cannot believe I am 16 weeks already!! That means in four more weeks, I will be halfway through my pregnancy. *mind blown*
I am just couple weeks into my 2nd trimester, but the difference between the first and second are like night and day! I have way more energy, now, I’m not nearly as nauseous, and I am back to eating pretty much anything.
Food-aversions and cravings were pretty much the same as when I was pregnant with Lilly; absolutely no red meat or fish, chicken was iffy, garlic was an ABSOLUTE no-no, and bland foods were my go-to.
Let me give you a quick recap of what those first several weeks were like, and then I’ll share how I’ve been doing, lately!
1st Trimester Recap:
One of the first signs I had that I was pregnant was that I was starving. For two weeks, I ate just about everything in sight! I gained a little weight, but didn’t really worry about it because I knew that more than likely, I would be pretty sick for the rest of the 1st trimester.
If I had to sum up the first trimester in three words, they would be could not function. I was so sick! And with having a toddler running around, there’s no time to be sick! M. was amazing, and really took over the cooking and cleaning, and taking care of Lilly when he got home from work. I could not have survived those weeks without him (Thanks, babe!!).
I could barely eat, I was so nauseous, and I was exhausted. And the SMELLS–don’t even get me started on smells–I swear I have PTSD from running to the bathroom after getting a wiff of something.
I actually banned my husband from cooking any type of beef, because I could still smell it hours after he had been cooking! 😛
Between weeks 8-10, I has lost almost 10 pounds. My midwife prescribed me Diclegius, which is a combination of B6 vitamin and Unisum (sleeping aid), but because it made me extremely drowsy, I could only take it at night. It did curb the nausea, so I stopped losing weight and was able to eat a little here and there…but overall, I lost about 15 pounds during the 1st trimester!
Let’s just say that because of that experience, I will never judge another pregnant woman for needing to take off work if they are sick! Y’all, it was No. Joke. and it honestly made me question if I had made the right choice to get pregnant, again.
16 week bumpdate:
THANKFULLY, most of that 1st trimester nonsense began to fade around week 12. So, let’s talk about what my new normal looks like!
DUE DATE: October 28TH, 2018
HOW FAR ALONG: 16 weeks
GENDER: We haven’t found out, yet, but hopefully we will know, soon!
SICKNESS: Thankfully, most of my nausea has disappeared, but I will have a day here or there where I have little appetite and am nauseous all day long. It’s definitely a HUGE improvement from the 1st trimester!
CRAVINGS: Anything cold and crunchy. Once I was past the 1st trimester, I have been wanting a lot of fresh, cold fruit, and crunchy salads. I’ve had some pretty intense cravings for Indian food (I could eat Chicken Tikka Masala with Rata EVERY day). Aand at least once a week, I treat myself to a frozen lemonade from Chik-Fil-A!
AVERSIONS: I still do not want to have anything to do with beef. Especially steak. If I see/smell it, it completely ruins my appetite! Anything fried in butter (just the smell will make me nauseous), or fried, period. Sometimes I can eat french fries, but not if they are super greasy.
Also, most things with garlic is a still a deal-breaker for me! (Unless it’s pesto…I’m always in the mood for pesto!)
PHYSICAL CHANGES: I bump just popped out about a week ago, but I have had terrible round ligament pains and achy pelvic joints since week 8. Everything feels loose, so I already feel like I’m waddling (even though I know I’m not)!
HOW I FEEL: For the most part, I feel like a functioning human being, other than the normal exhaustion in the evenings. Some days, I am more tired and sore than others, especially if I had been on my feet a lot, the previous day.
HOW I’M SLEEPING: Not well. 1st trimester, I had to get up to use the bathroom about 3-4 times a night, and while that has settled down, I am starting to have trouble getting comfortable.
MATERNITY CLOTHES: I hopped in my maternity jeans around week 8, I was so bloated!! I could have done the hair-tie through the belt loop trick, but I was already too sore (and too sick!) to want to mess with that.
I’ve heard from several other moms how it was rougher the 2nd/subsequent pregnancies than the previous ones, and I can only confirm that–some women get lucky, and it’s actually easier the 2nd time around!
That has not been my experience, so far.
I am very thankful that I do not have a full-time job, because I would have had to have taken soo much time off during the first trimester! Now that I am feeling back to normal and the weather is FINALLY warm, Lilly and I have been making up for lost time and getting outside any chance we get.
Would you all be interested in my doing a bumpdate about every four weeks, as well as sharing some of my favorite bump-friendly clothes and products along the way? Just let me know what you are interested in seeing–I feel like, this time around, I have a better idea of what I truly need and don’t need to get through pregnancy. 😉
