First of all, a BIG thank-you to Laura of Walking in Memphis in High Heels and Erin of The Fashion Canvas for choosing me as one of their Weekly Link-Up featured bloggers! You all are the sweetest! <3
You know how sometimes you purchase something and then forget that it’s in your closet? I’m not sure how I overlooked this button down popover, but for some reason, it’s been sitting in my closet for the last couple of months and hasn’t been touched!
Maybe I should start from the beginning….
One morning a couple of weeks ago, I stared, frustrated, into my closet wondering what the heck I was going to wear that day. Not a new dilemma, it happens all the time as I’m sure you all can relate, but this time was different.
After trying on a couple of tops and throwing them to the floor in frustration because they no longer fit, I was almost in tears. Blame it on the hormones, I felt like throwing a fit because I was so frustrated! I had become fed-up with the few shirts and shorts I had been rotating through, the number of shirts I could still wear was dwindling, and I was just ready for a change.
(My mother-in-law warned me that by the end of pregnancy, I’d be so sick of my clothes that I wouldn’t want to see them again)
So I started (slowly) purging my closet of things I couldn’t wear anymore (think: button downs, skirts, shorts, etc.). I’m in my 8th month of pregnancy, and my belly is literally growing by the day, which means that quite suddenly, my arsenal of wearable clothes has been drastically reduced.
I’ve been going through this cycle of try-on, throw on the floor, angrily-hunt-through closet, repeat just about every morning, trying to find SOMETHING to wear for the day. During one of these cycles, I happened upon this shirt and right before completely dismissing it as a hopeless button down, I realized that the buttons stopped midway down the shirt–it was a POPOVER!!
I literally danced around my bedroom with the shirt, SO happy that I had found something I could wear, and then realized that it had been sitting in my closet for a couple of months without being worn. Like, at all. oops
I ran to my husband to show him my prize. I’m sure he thought I was having one of my hormonal episodes, but he was a trooper and celebrated with me. 😀
It’s really the little things that are a huge deal, and at this stage of my pregnancy, I am grateful for little victories such as tops that still fit. I’m sure a lot of my fellow Mamas and Mamas-to-be can relate! Pregnancy is no joke, you guys, and being pregnant during the summer is a whole experience of itself.
Speaking of summer and being pregnant, you all might be wondering why the heck I’m wearing a vest…When we shot these photos, it was (still) blazing hot, but I knew that cooler temps had to be around the corner, so I wanted to go ahead and start planning for them!
The last few days, we’ve had a reprieve from the heat and humidity with cooler temperatures in the morning and again in the evening, so a light layer was actually comfortable! And because I’m dying for it to be fall, I had to add some sort of fall layer to freshen up my wardrobe. Being on a small budget with a baby on the way and saving up for a (future) downpayment on a house, you gotta maximize what you have and be creative!
And speaking of layers….
Is it possible to breastfeed while wearing layers in the fall/winter? You all know how fond I am of layers, and I know I shouldn’t/probably won’t care all that much when Baby Girl is actually here, but I really don’t want to give up my layers! If you have any tips or suggestions, sound off in the comments below, I could definitely use some advice. 🙂
