Hallo Lieben!
(That means “Hello Loves” in German). Welcome back for Part Two of my Travels in Germany! The first few days of our time in Germany was spent relaxing, going to the local Farmer’s Market, enjoying the amazing weather (NEVER humid, and rarely does it ever reach above 85 degrees in the summer).
On the first Sunday of our vacation, we traveled north to the city of Goslar which is situated in a valley next to a small mountain. The mountain was the site of a copper mine called Rammelsberg which was operated for over 1,000 years! A little history for you so bear with me:
Rammelsberg was owned by the Kaisers of Germany, up until the first World War, and was pretty much the major supplier of copper, during the Middle Ages and later, to most of Europe.
In the town of Goslar, the Kaiserpfalz, or Imperial Palace, was located at the top of the city overlooking it. I am mad at myself for not taking a picture of the palace, I guess I was too distracted! It was beautiful, with extensive grounds, and very old.
I noticed something the first summer I visited Germany and I want to see if you all notice what is missing in these pictures….
Town Square, which is very typical in an Altstadt, or “Old City” portion of a Germany town. |
I’m not going to lie, I have completely fallen in love with old German towns. The architecture is beautiful, and the cobblestone streets are romantic, to say the least!
Did you notice what was absent? Cars. What I really love about the German way of life is that you can walk or ride your bike to anywhere in the city or town. Does not matter how large the city may be, (I have walked all over Berlin once and Hamburg at least three times!) you can always get to where you need to go.
I certainly wasn’t use to all of the walking or bike riding the first summer I went to Germany four years ago. My feet and calf muscles were sore within the first few days! Thankfully I have gotten use to walking and riding my bike more (my city is very pedestrian and bicycle friendly in the part that I live), so I have been more than happy to ditch the auto and trek it to, well, anywhere! Seriously, I love walking or riding my bike! In a car, you are confined to your own little world with little interaction with the world around you, or the people around you. Riding a bike or walking forces you to be a part of nature, the environment and people around you.
Ok, I’ll get off my soapbox now, but I just had to share that little tidbit ๐ And of course, I have to share the requisite outfit picture from that day!
This is probably my most favorite scarf in my scarf collection! It was a Christmas present a loong time ago from my mother-in-law (doesn’t she have awesome taste??). And I am unashamedly taken a selfie. No shame.
You will be seeing a lot of these leopard flats in my pictures, but I will warn you: they are not as comfortable as they look! You will be hearing more about this later. ๐
Well lovelies, I am off to finish organizing my closet and get ready for the day. Yes, I am still in my pjs. Don’t judge ๐ Part Three will be tomorrow, about another shopping excursion and more foodie pictures. ๐ There is a reason why I gained three pounds while I was gone….
Enjoy your day!
I bought the same flats for a trip to Paris! Ugh they were horrible…So cute but not comfy at all!!

I am SOO glad I am not the only one who had problems with these flats!!! I am sorry to hear they were horrible for you too, but you get what I'm saying ๐
Seriously, they deceived me into thinking they were comfortable when I wore them for three hours and had no problems ๐
