So, you know how the second you give away something that you haven’t used or worn in awhile, and sometime later you discover a use for it? Welll, that’s how I feel about the sweater dresses I gave away! I had a few that I had collected, back in college, and after I graduated, I donated them to Goodwill.
And now they’re back in style.
(or maybe they never went out?)
Whyyy did I get of something so comfy?? Like, seriously, there is almost nothing cozier than a sweater dress worn with tights and boots. It’s the oversized sweater’s grown-up, dressier cousin, and TOTALLY work-appropriate!
So now I’m back to square one, slowly adding them back into my closet. In college, I purchased most of mine from Charlotte Russe, and while they were very budget-friendly, they probably wouldn’t have lasted more than a couple of seasons.
Remember my post about this über-soft fair isle sweater from Abercrombie? I purchased this fair isle sweater dress at the same time, and it’s JUST as soft!! Like, for reals, you all, this is what I actually wore for Thanksgiving, and I was so. comfortable. all day long!
I gotta hand it to A&F, not only is their sweater game on point this year, but they are the Mecca for sweater dresses this season! I posted this sweater dress in my Instastories, a few weeks ago, and had asked you all what you thought about the sizing–most of you thought it looked great, but it was a tad too form-fitting for me, so I decided to return it.
Well, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it (the button details in the back are too cute!), so today I’m going to head to the store to try on the next size up. And for $30, you just can’t beat that price for a great sweater dress! 👌🏼
Back to this fair isle dress–I went with dark green opaque tights (thanks for the suggestion, Britt!), but it looks just as good with all-black, or even no tights and riding boots. Some things I did NOT get rid of when they went out of style, were my colored tights.
Are they coming back in-style?,
(Please tell me I’m not the only one who wants them to come back!) Psshh, I’ll wear them, anyway! 💁 #youdoyouboo
I think the next time I wear it, I’ll pair it with a bright red plaid button down and flats. (Don’t worry, I won’t pair all of that with the dark green tights!) Plaid and fair isle ALWAYS look great together! 👯
So while I don’t have quite the collection of sweater dresses I did back in college (I have one…just one), I have rounded up a bunch of under $50 options that you can bet your Christmas cookie on will be added to my closet!
Check out some of my favorites below, and let me know if you’re loving the return of the sweater dress (and colored tights, for that matter)!

I love this look – a simple sweater dress and tights is always a hit, and one thing I like is that it can work with heels, flats, loafers or boots. Did coloured tights go out of fashion? Oops, I didn’t notice! Kx
