Ok, y’all, let’s be real–raise your hand if you HATED wearing a coat, while growing up? Between having to schlepp around something extra to carry, and being too warm in the car, I would frequently “forget” my coat at home…Not to mention, that outfit I had spent hours planning was too cute to be covered up by a thick coat.
I am happy to report that I have since matured in my outlook on coats, I very rarely forget mine at home (that cute outfit is not worth suffering in the cold!)…But with how long chilly weather can last, even here in the Bluegrass, I needed to find a coat that could function just as well as being a part of my outfits. Something that could be worn through the majority of the seasons, would fit seamlessly into my wardrobe, but could also function as a standalone piece, in its own right!
You have probably been following me long enough to know that this green coat has been exactly that–I staple in my closet! Whether it’s been to add a pop of color to, or polish to a basic t-shirt/jeans/boots outfit, I have certainly gotten my money’s worth with this coat, AND it has held up so well!
Dare I say that I am actually excited to put on a coat before leaving the house? My 13-year old self would be rolling her eyes, right about now. Such sass, much attitude. My first non-neutral winter coat was a bright, canary yellow toggle coat from American Eagle that my sister got me for Christmas, many years ago. Yellow is not normally a color I would choose for myself, but I quickly became obsessed with planning my outfits around it–it was PERFECT for all of those cold, dark winter days!
Shortly thereafter, I discovered J.Crew’s wool coats that they carried in an array of bright colors, and the rest is history. I actually purchased my green wool coat from a friend on Instagram, a few years ago, so this exact color is no longer available. The camel color is a popular pick, and maybe someday I’ll add it to my closet, but for the foreseeable future, my emerald green coat is perfection! I rounded up several beautiful stadium and city coats, if you are interested in adding some pep to your winter wardrobe. Check them out below :)!
Stay Classy!
