Happy Monday, lovelies!
Quite a few things exciting things happened over the weekend, and a lot of them will be coming to the blog over the next few weeks! I finally created a Facebook page for the blog (check it out!), and I am currently hosting a Stella & Dot online trunk show AND a Virtual Styling Session tomorrow evening! If you join the styling event, you will be entered for a chance to win a $25 gift card to S&D to be used tomorrow night during the Styling Session. You don’t want to miss out on this fun opportunity to shop together, receive great styling tips from a Stella & Dot Stylist, and be entered for a fun giveaway all from the comfort of your home! You can check out the details here on the event page.
Today, I am excited to talk about my experience with the J.Crew Very Personal Stylist service! And the best part about it? It’s completely free. That’s right, your very own personal stylist who will open the store early or keep it open late for you, as well as pick out the best colors and silhouettes that will flatter your body type.
I had the privilege of working with a VPS yesterday afternoon, and it was wonderful! Here was my experience:
I had gone into the store a couple of weeks back to see if the new collection had come out yet (for research purposes, of course 😀 ), and I met J., who was a Very Personal Stylist there at the store. He greeted me and asked if there was anything he could do for me, and I explained I was a blogger wanting to do a little reconnaissance for a post, and he quickly gave me his card and explained that he would be hosting an event where I could come in and try on the pieces from the collection. He took down my email address and phone number, as well as my blog url, and we parted ways. I was pretty excited, but I wondered if he would be contacting me because I had told him up front that I am currently on a Closet Remix Challenge and was on a shopping hiatus (Little Debbie Downer, I know!).
He emailed me within a few days and we set up an appointment for Sunday afternoon to come in, and took down my size and types of pieces I was interested in trying on (workplace attire, I told him).
When I arrived, J. greeted me and took me over to the rack of clothes that he had picked out for me to try out. He did not pick out random pieces, he put together entire OUTFITS, complete with jewelry, for me to try on. And not just any type of outfits, he put together ensembles that I would have picked out for myself…As in, he went through my blog, assessed my style, and came up with these fantastic outfits! Let’s just say I was pretty impressed at this point, and we had only just begun.
We carried the pieces to the dressing room where he had a room reserved for me (complete with a sign, totally felt like a VIP), offered me a bottle of water, and I got to work trying on my outfits.
I apologize in advance for the poor quality of the pictures…My photographer husband wasn’t too enthusiastic about going with me to try on a bunch of clothes (go figure??), so I took my little point-and-shoot.
Point-and-shoot + dressing room lighting = no bueno.
This outfit was one of my favorites! Who ever knew that a denim jacket could be so chic?? Or that it could be office appropriate? Not this girl, until J. suggested wearing it in place of a blazer to make this outfit look less like Frumpty Fran and more like Susie Chic. Let’s just say I am SERIOUSLY regretting that I gave away my denim jacket.
This outfit was my other favorite. I normally would not pick a vertical striped shirt but this one was adorable! Paired with the braided belt and tassel necklace, I felt like I should be spending the afternoon on a yacht or country club. I wore my sandals to complete the look, but really, a pair of Sperry Topsider boat-shoes would have been perfect!
Each of these outfits was a perfect mix of pieces that just came out and pieces that have been out for a couple of months now. I am thoroughly pleased with my experience with J., who was very accommodating, offering styling tips and ideas, as well as running to grab different sizes or colors. If you have an item but have no idea how to style it, head to J.Crew and ask to see one of their Very Personal Stylists who will be more than happy to help you find pieces that will match, and pretty much create an entire outfit or two to go with it!.
Well ladies, I’ve got a very busy day ahead of me, so I will leave you all to these fabulous outfits! Later this week I’ll show you where you can get some of these fabulous pieces for less, for those of us who are on a budget. 🙂
Also, look for my post tomorrow about my Stella & Dot favorites as well as more info about the Virtual Styling Session!
