Happy (belated) National Seersucker Day!!
If you’re like me, most of you did not get the memo that there was such a day…I was oblivious to its existence until I was scrolling through my Instagram feed yesterday morning and happened upon this post. So I did a little research like the curious person that I am, and discovered an article that said Representative Bill Cassidy declared, on Monday, that Wednesday (the 11th) was to be the day to celebrate this summertime staple. With Congress doing away with Seersucker Thursdays back in 2012, some congressmen still believed that all Americans could enjoy wearing seersucker together.
While I’m not sure how well this National Day will do in the years to come (most people seemed oblivious on Instagram), nor am I sure that Rep. Cassidy meant anything serious, seersucker can and should be enjoyed any day you wish! As I said in my seersucker post, it really is the perfect summer staple. And if you reside in the South, it’s an unspoken rule that you have at least one piece in you closet…
(Just kidding….but really….)
So in a rather belated fashion (teehee), I pulled together a few ways of styling this fabulous fabric, and the first two outfits I have actually worn! Check them out and tell me what you think. 🙂
shirt | blazer | shorts (similar here & here) | wedges | clutch, budget-friendly option here | pearls
Not only am I a sucker for seersucker, I love nothing more than pairing seersucker with nautical pieces, they just go together like peanut butter and jelly, or marshmallows and graham crackers…..You get the idea :). Again, you can easily switch out the shorts for a longer pair of shorts or skirt in a similar pattern, or go with a solid color instead.
shirt | cardigan | shorts | flats, similar here | pearls, love these
You can easily substitute pants or a skirt of the same fabric for the shorts above, or even a pair of Bermuda shorts. Button downs and cardis are a great way to dress up a pair of shorts, and the pleats on these shorts already give make the shorts dressy.
shirt (similar) | pants | shoes | handbag | belt | necklace, love this one
One of my FAVORITE color combos for the summer, these turquoise seersucker pants pair perfectly with a bright yellow top and blue striped handbag! Add a blazer to the ensemble for a more business casual look for the office, or try a denim jacket for cooler mornings and you’re set for the day. And these pants are currently on sale at Vineyard Vines so grab a pair before they disappear!
Stay Classy!
