Ok, so some of you may remember my saying that I originally wasn’t a fan of Pantone’s Color of the Year Radiant Orchid, and then I changed my mind (which I tend to do when given enough time) when I did a bit of research for this post, and well, now I’ve fallen head over heels in LOVE with the color!
Funny story about these jeans, I actually purchased this exact pair last year, but was unsure when they arrived if I really liked the shade. So, I sent them back but hadn’t been able to take my mind off the color. And when Pantone announced the Color of the Year and after I did my research, those jeans crept back into my thoughts and I had to check them out again.
Obviously I bought them, but let me just say, that it was worth returning and waiting because I snagged them for less than half of what I originally paid for them! #scoreoneforwhit
Aaand it is because of these jeans that I am madly in love with Radiant Orchid….like, no joke, Radiant Orchid is like the new pink, and I am already obsessed with pink.
So back to Valentine’s Day…I had originally planned to wear this outfit that day, and I wanted something girly and pink, but at the same time, branch out of the traditional pink + red combo (which I am also in love with, but then again I am in love with a lot of things). This particular shade of orchid is like a warmer, electrified shade of pink, and like I said, anything in the vicinity of pink is on my radar.
Welp, I spent Valentine’s Day rather unglamourously on the couch with a lovely bug I caught from my husband, so this outfit was put on hold until church yesterday. Buuut, he more than made up for it by surprising me with my new pretty…
Her name is Kate.
To say that I was shocked/excited would be a HUGE understatement, we normally get each other small gifts for Valentine’s Day, but this sweet man really outdid himself! Like, seriously, having a classic handbag in black was #9 on my 101 Things in 1001 Days list, and M did a little research on my Pinterest board to see what style I really liked.
I can neither confirm nor deny that Kate and I took a nap on the couch together.

But what I have come to realize, perhaps a rather late in our relationship, is that it’s not about how we show our love to our significant other, family members, and friends, on Valentine’s Day. Yes, it is fun to get dressed up, go out to dinner, splurge on some chocolate, flowers, and cards, but what about the other 364 days of the year?
I am ashamed to say that in years passed, I use to place too much emphasis (and as a result, pressure) on special events like Valentine’s Day, anniversary, etc. In the past, I would get my feelings hurt if M did not make plans for the evening, or show me love in an “extra special” way, when instead, I should have been thankful for the love he has always shown me….And c’mon, I could have easily made dinner plans for the two of us if it meant that much to me.
So when I came down with a virus, it was basically God’s way of telling me to be thankful for the ways M loves me, and to enjoy the simple things we do together. We cooked dinner together, and watched a movie on the couch, and to be honest, I cannot believe how content I was to do just that. (And no, it wasn’t because of Ms. Spade, but it may have helped lighten my bummed mood from being sick!).
So what I resolve to do, from here on out, is to always celebrate Valentine’s Day, 365 days of the year. Daily show my love and appreciation, not only to my husband, but to everyone I care about! Sending a short text message saying why I’m thankful for their friendship, sending snail mail just because, even surprising a friend with a batch of brownies or coffee, sending my sisters a gift card to Starbucks
I can already hear the enthusiastic agreement for that last one 😉
Calling my parents just to thank them, doing something nice for someone just because, etc.
Appreciation.
Love.
They go very well together.
Stay Classy!

Adorable outfit! I'll have to check out those pants! And great message about special events. I used to get so upset when certain days weren't perfect, but now I realize they are perfect if I just get to spend them with the people I love. Anything else is just a bonus!

Those pants are so pretty! I am with you – I was hesitant about radiant orchard at first too… but I think I'll grow to it over time. Yay for your new pretty sidekick! I agree – we shouldn't get too caught up in expectations for holidays or valentines day. It is all about the everyday. Of course a few special gifts here and there don't hurt 🙂

I love this look and that color is beyond gorgeous!!!! I agree that we need to appreciate the ones we care about more than just on valentine's day. I am guilty of not doing it as often as I should.
