Welp, our family has been hit with cold, after cold, after cold. After starting Lilly in a preschool-like program back in January, she has brought home a LOT more than just her artwork, to share! 🤧 Toddlers are like human petri dishes, y’all! They touch everything and everyone, pick their noses (and sometimes their friend’s nose *GAK*), “share” each other’s sippy cups, and have yet to master proper coughing etiquette, you know, like not coughing in your mother’s face. (Maybe that’s why I keep getting sick?)
And poor Rosie gets all the love from her big sister, so every now and then, she will wake up with a stuffy nose. 🙁 I guess that’s par for the course, with having two kids, but man are there moments when it’s so overwhelming! Literally bouncing back and forth between the two, all day, and sometimes the stars and their naps aline and I can catch up on Netflix laundry.
But seriously, laundry. I am FINALLY. Caught. Up! I am pretty good about getting everything washed and dried, but the ironing and folding is what gets me, especially with a toddler bent on destroying my beautifully folded piles. So last week, I had had enough and put on Lilly’s favorite German youtube videos, and spent a couple days to get it all done. #bosslady
Red Burberry Jacket
But what I really wanted to talk about was this bright red quilted Burberry jacket. I’ve had it for a few years, now (it was a BIG surprise Christmas present from M.!), and it’s definitely my most favorite jacket I own! Not only is it a classic Burberry Brit quilted jacket (back when a piece of Burberry was labeled either Prosum, London, or Brit), but the shade of red is absolutely gorgeous! Burberry is a brand that I had admired from afar for years, especially their iconic trench coats. Not to mention, their plaid has a special place in my heart! <3
So the story about this jacket–we were in Germany visiting my in-laws for Christmas, doing some pre-Christmas shopping at Peek & Cloppenburg and browsing the sale section on the luxury labels floor, and of course had to stop by the Burberry section for fun. Ya know, even if something just happened to be on sale, it was still not going to be in our budget.
But there was the red jacket. On a rack that was marked down.
Too good to be true, right? I didn’t head directly for it, I didn’t want to get too excited, and I didn’t want to attract any attention from a salesperson because, ya know, who wants to have to tell them that you can’t actually afford to be looking in that section of the store, anyways??
Plus, my German wasn’t that great, back then, so it would have been doubly embarassing.
Anywho, I walked over and looked at the tag, thinking there was no way it would be in my size.
And it was. My heart literally skipped a beat. So, I slipped it on and looked in the mirror–and flipped the collar up (because, hello Burberry plaid!).
And then I looked at the tag, and it was marked down 50%.
My heart skipped a second time, because WHEN does Burberry ever go on sale, in my size?? M. and my mother-in-law came over and voiced their approval. And M. asked if I wanted it to be my Christmas present!!
I about had a heart attack, there on the sales floor. I had always daydreamed of owning something from Burberry, something classic and if I had girls one day, I could pass it down to them. But I never thought it would actually come true! I practically skipped my way through the rest of the store, right up to the counter where they wrapped and boxed it up (remember, it was to be my Christmas present so I had to wait another week before I could actually wear it).
I know that Burberry just isn’t in the cards for everyone, but if you ever get to make the splurge, go for it! I wear a lot of bright colors in my wardrobe, so the red quilted jacket fits perfectly with my style and is a color and style that can be worn almost year-round. The jacket is pretty lightweight, so it can function like a blazer when layered over a sweater. It is very fitted, and Burberry runs slightly small, so keep that in mind!
Red Jackets Under $150
BUT, if a red quilted Burberry jacket just isn’t in your budget, I scoured the internet for some pretty fabulous bright red jackets–quilted and non–to satisfy your sartorial fancies. And all are under $150! Red is such a fun color that projects confidence, and when when wearing a red jacket or coat, you can have it be the focus of your outfit and keep the rest of your ensemble simple.
My outfit isn’t simple, because I played with a couple different patterns and textures, but I did keep my color palette pretty simple and stuck with camel and blues. I had never had a coat be the focus of my outfit, before, because I had always had coats that were purely functional. Which is why, growing up, I never really liked wearing a coat because it always covered up my cute outfit (sorry, Mom!).
But my bright red quilted jacket changed how I thought about jackets and outerwear! Why not, instead, have the jacket be the focal point of my outfit? Who says that your coat always has to be the Debbie-Downer of your outfit party, when it could be the one to get the party started?
So if you could have your dream coat, and it was Burberry, what would you go for? Would you stick with a more traditional color like black, camel, or navy, or would you go all-out and choose red or pink? Whether you go designer or stick with a budget-friendly option, don’t be afraid to switch it up and try a bold color or pattern!
Stay Classy!
