Hello, lovelies!
Today is the first day of the Lucky FABB conference, and I couldn’t be more EXCITED!!! Follow along on Instagram and Twitter to see what I’m up to these next few days!
Today and tomorrow, I will be blog swapping with Susan from Charming Lucy to show you how we style sequins for fall. Today I am over on her blog, and tomorrow she will be taking over mine!
I am going to show you how I style one of my favorite pieces in my closet: my ombre sequin tank! I will be honest with you all, this is the first time I have ever worn it (yikes!). You see, I did the not-so-smart thing and bought it because it’s covered in sequins, and I just happen to be in LOVE with sequins (and it was on SUPER sale), buuuut I didn’t really plan how I would utilize it in my wardrobe! So, in the back of my closet it hung, with very little love or attention, except to maybe venture out for a few minutes, only to be put back into my closet. The problem is, I don’t attend very many parties that would need a sequin top, so I was kind of stuck with how to wear it in other situations.
Enter Pinterest. Yes, Pinterest. How many fashion ideas and inspirations have we all gleaned from that payload??? I started seeing outfits where a sequin tank was layered over a long-sleeved shirt with a jacket over it, and I had a “duh, why didn’t I think of that?” moment.
Wearing sequins during the day use to be considered, but here in the fashion world, we like to bend and break the rules! I paired my sequin top with a neutral colored button down and black pants to give the top a more sophisticated but down to earth vibe. Why neutral colors? The sequin top is already going to grab people’s attention, but the whole point of this outfit is to tone down the shock factor so that it doesn’t look like you’re on your way to go clubbing (or just getting back, if you’re a a late-nighter). Topping off the ensemble is my beloved herringbone vest, and this outfit is now fall-weather ready!
I wore just a simple pearl necklace because the sequin top is center stage in this ensemble, and to add a chunky statement necklace would make the outfit overwhelming. The key to wearing sequins during the day is to dress the item down…Keep the accessories and colors simple, and let the sequined piece speak for itself. 🙂 Pair a sequined skirt with a chunky sweater and boots for a more relaxed daytime look, or a sequin scarf with a tshirt, jeans, and flats. Play around with what you have! Mixing dressy with casual is key to creating the perfect daytime fall look.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post, Susan will be taking over to show how she styles her sequins!
