Happy Saturday, lovelies!
I apoligize for the late post this morning, but I really had no other chance to tweak the recipe this week!
If you are just now joining us, you can check out my Green-Eyed Monster and Blueberry Banana Bash recipes. I generally post a smoothie recipe every other Saturday. 🙂
I have a fantastic, skin-glowing recipe for you all to try today! It’s a bit different from what I normally make, I usually prefer anything berry flavored or tropical, but today I decided to think a little outside the box. If you have ever done any juicing or juice fast, than you will enjoy this recipe! I call it the Orange Zinger. It’s packed with healthful goodies like fresh orange juice, mango, carrots, lemon, and ginger! See why it’s called the Zinger?? While I am a big fan of juicing, and wish I could try a juice fast, I am quite partial to the amazing power of fiber in my diet! I feel fuller longer, not to mention my digestion benefits greatly!
If you are not a fan of ginger, you can either halve the ingredient or leave it out all together. Now, my smoothies would not be complete without some sort of greenery in them, so I did add kale to my smoothie, but I made it optional in the recipe (you can see why in the directions).
Ok ladies (and gentlemen who are joining), time to get your glow on!
Orange Zinger Recipe:
Ingredients:
1 orange, peeled
1/2 mango
juice of 1 lemon (I used lime)
5 small carrots, peeled, coarsely chopped
1 tsp. fresh ginger (optional)
1 kale leaf (optional)
Nutritional Analysis:
Total Calories: 233-250
Dietary Fiber: 10g
Sugar: 37g
Protein: >1g
Fat: >1g
Vitamins: Rich in Vitamin A, C, K, B6, Potassium, and Mangnesium
Directions: Blend up the ingredients in a blender until smooth. If you want to give it a little zing, add the ginger. I added both the ginger and the kale leaf, the kale tones down the intensity of the ginger and makes it more smooth to the palette.
This smoothie is an unusual one for me. It’s a bit grainy in texture because of the fiber from the carrots (and I do not have a high-powered blender like the Ninja or Vitamix), but it has a nice pop of flavor from the carrots and ginger, and the lemon juice and mango give it a slight tropical taste.
Did I mention that this smoothie is packed with skin-glowing vitamins?? Rich in Vitamins A and C, Vitamin C is key in the production of collagen, which is a protein that aids in the growth of cells and blood vessels and gives skin its firmness and strength [source: Livestrong]. Not to mention it also protects against the harmful effects of sun exposure! (Wrinkled leather, anyone??)
Stay Classy!
