Hello lovely ladies, it’s good to be back! I took a rather long and definitely unplanned hiatus from the blog, but life gets busy and some things have to take a backseat to keep one’s sanity! Believe me, I was dying to get back as soon as possible :D.
One of the things that has been taking up my time recently is I am now chief style blogger and assistant to an event planner in my city.. Once a week I blog about style, and in addition to blogging, I also get to take part in some of the planning process, which has been AWESOME!! Last Saturday was the first event I had been on site for, it was a wedding at a winery outside of town. Let me just say that my feet and ankles are still sore from being on my feet from 10am-9pm, setting up chairs and tables, keeping the wedding party on schedule, managing the reception timeline…Let’s just say that is SO much that goes into making a wedding ceremony and reception run smoothly that I was completely oblivious to during my own wedding! But other than being exhausted, I really enjoyed being a part of someone else’s big day, and it was truly a rewarding experience!
SO, that’s what has been going on with my life the past several days, along with job applications *gag* and getting the hubs ready for his internship, but I also needed the break to play catch-up with the blog stuff. Changing your blog name is a lot of work! 😀
I haven’t done a wishlist Wednesday in awhile, so I thought I’d share some of my favorites I’m currently crushing on! Besides being completely obsessed with seersucker (and plaid, and nautical, but that’s beside the point), gingham is another one of my summer favorites! Yes it can be worn year-round (you might remember this post), but spring and summer just happen to be my favorite seasons for gingham because there are SO many shades and styles to choose from, just check out my list below!
Haha, I couldn’t help it with the title, anytime I hear the word “gingham” the song by Psy always pops into my head. Sorry if it’s now stuck in your heads for the rest of the day! 😀
The two-color checked pattern known as gingham has been in existence since the 1750s (woah, long time!), but it wasn’t until the mid 1800s to early 1900s that it really gained prominence among fashionistas and style icons. One of the first images that pops into people’s minds is the blue gingham dress worn by Dorothy Gale from the Wizard of Oz…or picnic blankets. Yes, picnic blankets. One day I wore my pink gingham shirt to work, and one of the (male) teachers asked me if I was going for the picnic blanket look.
*facepalm*
Of course I didn’t give him a difficult time, he was a guy after all, I just laughed it off and told him (for his sake, of course) that it’s called gingham. Hey, at least he knew it was the same pattern as Dorothy’s dress! 😀
One of the easiest ways to add pattern to an outfit is by layering a gingham shirt under a pullover or tying it over a dress. But besides purchasing every color gingham shirt, which is totally not a goal of mine, there are so many other ways you can add gingham to your wardrobe! This beautiful salmon shirt dress from Vineyard Vines would be perfect for Sunday brunch or an afternoon wedding, just pair it with some wedges or nice sandals and you’ll be comfortable all day long. If you’re not ready to commit to a gingham shirt, let alone a dress, little accessories like a headband, belt, purse, or cosmetic pouch are great ways to dip your toes in a new trend.
And for the days when you just want to look presentable with minimal effort, a baseball cap is one of my go-to accessories for when my hair is looking anything but presentable. If you like throwing on a cap and leaving the house, why not choose a hat that will add a bit of perk to your outfit. It makes me feel a bit more stylish, even if I’m in running shorts and a tshirt! With so many options to choose from, there are literally options for everyone…Even your man can get in on the gingham style action with a bow tie or two!
Try the trend out, it’s definitely not going anywhere anytime soon. And if you’re a seasoned gingham shirt wearer, why not try some other ways of adding gingham to your wardrobe!
Stay Classy!
Love your picks! And the planning gig sounded pretty awesome too;) Good luck with job applications, you'll land something ridiculously cool in no time!
